Volunteers needed!! – The PTA can’t do everything for its students without the involvement of our parents. There are a few positions we really need to fill. If you are new to the area or new to W-L, this is a great way to get to know other parents and to feel like part of our wonderful community. Please contact Tish Jenkins at email@example.com if you can jump in where needed!

Grants Committee: This is a fun job that starts very soon. This committee evaluates all the great grant proposals submitted by faculty and staff to do creative things in their classrooms that are not funded by the school. In addition, student clubs and organizations can also request funds to help them with their missions. This is a mostly September/October gig. We welcome all parents who want to do this, but in particular parents of underclassmen are encouraged because the two veteran Grants parents will both be graduating with their kids this year.
Nominating Committee: These individuals help us to fill the PTA positions for the following year. We often have the same committee chairs continue from one year to the next. If they are graduating, they can often recommend parents who have worked with them in the current year to take on a leadership role. However, we do need people to help us find PTA executive officers for the following year, as well. If you know parents at the school, this is a great job for you! Starts after winter break.
Reflections Committee – these parents coordinate the national PTA arts competition by promoting it at school, judging the submissions in various areas (photography, visual arts, music, etc) and coordinating with county, district, region, and state Reflections volunteers. W-L students have historically been big winners here, so please get engaged in this committee, Takes a lot of people, but many hands make light work!
Senior Party/Grad Night Boat Cruise – this committee plans and executes a fun and safe night after graduation, typically on a Potomac River boat. These parents sign contracts for the boat and various entertainment vendors, they fundraise, they plan activities, promote the party at school and via social media and sell tickets to the seniors. The planning goes all year, pretty steadily but not overwhelmingly. We have a veteran (graduated) parent who has graciously offered to guide this committee through what needs to be done. If you like event planning, promotions, or fundraising, this is the group for you! These are the committees that are in particular need of leadership or new people because current parents are leaving after this year. There are plenty of other ways to get involved.
